Double Cone Island is located 17km straight out of Abel Point Marina heading North in Airlie Beach. It’s one of the more exposed islands and is situated alone with no other islands in close proximity.
Double Cone is a great alternative to fishing some of the other groups of islands. As it offers a little less in natural activities and shelter, it usually doesn’t see the same fishing pressure that some of the other islands may experience.
Coral trout seem to love the shallow water drop-offs and in the cooler months, Spanish Mackerel seem to enjoy sitting just off the bottom waiting for unsuspecting schools of baitfish. Finding bait on the sounder is usually the key and trolling baits or lures around likely ground is a good way to get your arms stretched on some very large specimens.
