Hydeaway Bay is one of the most relaxing and picturesque places to visit on the Whitsundays mainland. Located about 45 minutes north of Airlie Beach the drive itself makes the trip worthwhile.
Once you arrive at Hydeaway Bay there is a small community of beach front houses and with several beach access points. If you continue past the houses and follow the dirt road which is accessible by car, you’ll find a lookout which will highlight the natural beauty of the area.
From its elevated position, you can see the fringing reef and to your left the rather large and close Gloucester island. In the distance, you can also see several other islands and crystal clear water as far as the eye can see.
Once you continue down the track you will find little pockets of beach with a fringing reef which is great for fishing, snorkelling or just relaxing. There are 2 separate resorts which provide great food and quite often live entertainment on the weekend.
Sundays are usually quite popular especially when the weather is nice but most days you can find a piece of heaven on the beach all to yourself looking out over the calm water with a spectacular island backdrop.
