Whitsunday island

Whitsunday island

Whitsunday Island is a lush uninhabited tropical island in the heart of the Whitsundays. It is only 10km off the mainland and 21km from Airlie Beach as the crow flies and is the largest in the chain of the 74 islands but that’s not what makes it famous.

Whitsunday Island is recognised nationally and internationally as having one of if not the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Whitehaven beach has won its fair share of awards and it’s a badge the Whitsundays wears with pride. The island and beach are very accessible by private craft but if you really want to experience it in all its glory there are numerous tour operators who are equipped to show you the best of all it has to offer.

Tours by boat can drop you off at the island to see the amazing Hill Inlet from the lookout but to truly take in the enormity of what nature has to offer you might consider a scenic fly to witness it from the air.

Another unique feature of Whitehaven beach is the fact that it has 7 km of the purest silica sand in the world, which gives it a pure white look that contrasts amazingly with the crystal blue water. There are walking trails and camping options on the island but if you choose to use your own craft there are plenty of safe close options to anchor right in close to the beach.

Whitehaven Beach doesn’t discriminate either you could have a safe anchorage with million dollar views from your 4m boat and be anchored alongside multi-million dollars pleasure crafts. If there was only one  thing you should see while in the Whitsundays, it would be Whitsunday island and Whitehaven Beach.
